Don’t Look Back Page 26
He inhaled the scent of her hair, sending a little ripple of enjoyment through her.
“We have been in bed … a lot this week,” she answered.
Dunn lifted his head and made a soft, male sound of approval next to her neck. “If you’re still awake, I haven’t worn you out enough.”
“You did,” she muttered as she covered his arms with her hands, stroking over his forearms where they were holding her across her middle. “The truth is, I keep waking up to enjoy discovering this isn’t all a dream.”
“Does that mean you’ll let me buy you a diamond after all?”
Thais shook her head. “If that’s what I wanted, I would have gotten it years ago.”
Instead she had a thick gold band on her finger. Raised up on its surface was an inscription in Hebrew: “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.”
Dunn had on a matching one.
Things surrounded them but material possessions came and went.
“Shadow Ops taught me about what’s important in this life, Dunn,” she muttered. “It’s not diamonds or fancy homes … you know it, too.”
“I do,” he offered before he scooped her up and carried her back to their bed. He placed her on it and stared at her for a long moment. “Having you here, that’s what’s important.”
He joined her, rolling her over and kissing her. She threaded her hands through his hair, kissing him back before pulling his head away so she could speak.
“I have to be up early tomorrow.”
“That so?” he asked.
“I have an appointment to have my long-term birth control removed.”
He stroked the side of her face, making her feel more cherished than she ever had before. The level of intimacy between them was still so overwhelming.
The difference was, she hoped it never stopped startling her. The rest of their lives wasn’t nearly long enough.
But she wasn’t going to waste any of it on things like shying away from taking chances.
Not … one … second.
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
Thank you for reading my Shadow Ops books.
It’s been a challenge and a roller coaster ride to write these books. Each one had a unique place in my heart and bringing them together tested my patience at times! Through this journey, I’ve been blessed to have an amazing editor … Alex. I truly couldn’t have done this without you! And the team at St. Martin’s has been amazing!
But it’s all for nothing without readers who are willing to embark on the adventure with me, reading the tales of my heroes and sticking it out until that last page. Thank you … thank you! From the bottom of my heart!
Don’t miss these other novels in the Unbroken Heroes series!
